This Onion Ring Sauce is rich and creamy with a little kick. Perfect for serving with onion rings, french fries, and so much more! Made with ketchup, mayo + spices to keep life simple.

The sauce is always the best part, you know?
You know that tangy, slightly spicy sauce that makes onion rings absolutely irresistible? The one that tastes suspiciously like Outback’s Bloomin’ Onion sauce but costs a fortune to buy in tiny bottles? Yeah, that one.
Turns out you can make it at home in about 2 minutes with mostly pantry staples.
You may not have the horseradish on hand (this doesn’t seem like an every house condiment, unless you’re my dad who is always horrified to find that some people don’t put that stuff on everything) but I still have you covered…
Next time you hit up the Arby’s drive-thru (no Arby’s hate allowed here, friend), snag a few extra packets of their horsey sauce. I keep a little stash of drive-thru sauce packets in my pantry for exactly these kinds of situations and they’ve saved me on more than one occasion.
Anyway, the next time you’re serving up air fryer onion rings or our crispy onion strings, this sauce is the one. It’s ridiculously easy and tastes better than anything you’ll find in the condiment aisle.
3 Reasons You’ll Love This Onion Ring Sauce:
Big flavor, no effort! You’re just mixing stuff in a bowl here. That’s it. You’ve got this.
Horseradish kick: Not enough to be overpowering but just enough bite to make it interesting.
Dip away: Yes, it’s for onion rings. But fries, burgers, nuggets, and even grilled chicken are fair game.
Swaps and Tips:

- No horseradish? Try a tiny squeeze of wasabi or a pinch of dry mustard powder. Won’t be exactly the same, but it’ll be delicious.
- Spice level: Totally customizable. Add more cayenne or horseradish if you like it hot, or leave them out entirely if you don’t!
- Make it yours: Stir in some Dijon mustard or a pinch of brown sugar to change up the sweet and savory flavors. Add extra smoked paprika for more of that smoky goodness.
- Low carb: Use a reduced sugar ketchup to make this sauce low carb! And then be sure to serve it up with these keto onion rings.
Budget Hack:
No horseradish in your fridge and don’t want to buy it just for this? I’ve got you!
The next time you’re at Arby’s grab a handful of horsey sauce packets. They’re delicious on your sandwich (especially when mixed with Arby’s sauce!), but the extras store in the pantry for awhile and will save you when you need a smidge of horseradish!
This recipe does call for prepared horseradish (the grated kind, not the creamy kind) but you can swap in horseradish sauce (like horsey sauce) instead. See the tips in the recipe card note section.
Serving Ideas:
Yes, onion rings are the obvious pick here, but let’s live a little…
- French Fries: Onion rings and French fries are classic sides at most burger joints and this sauce is great for either!
- Burgers: We usually go for our smash burger sauce on a burger, but this adds a little kick that I can’t get enough of.
- Chicken: Use this sauce as a dip for our crispy oven fried chicken tenders!

Storage:
Fridge: There’s not much to storing this sauce just keep it in an airtight container or jar in your fridge for up to 5 days.
Freezer: Avoid freezing as this is a mayo based sauce and it will not hold up well.
