Rice Krispies – The star ingredient! You’ll need some Rice Krispies cereal to make these classic treats. You could also use Chex cereal instead if that’s your thing! That’s what we used in our Christmas Crunch Bars!
Marshmallow – We’re using mini marshmallows, but full size will work as well.
Candies & Sprinkles – To make these festive Christmas Rice Krispies you’ll add in some red and green M&M candies and sprinkles!
What We Love About This Recipe!
Pretty much everyone loves a Rice Krispies Treat, but when you add in chocolate candy and festive sprinkles, they’re sure to go nuts for them! We also like that these feel like you tried, but really you just made a 5 ingredient no bake treat in minutes. 😉
How to Make Christmas Rice Krispies Treats:
Melt: First you’re going to make the goo. Heat some butter in a sauce pan on low heat until it has melted and then dump in all but two cups of the marshmallows. Stir constantly until it all melts together.
Mix: Once the marshmallow mixture is ready remove it from the heat and start stirring in all the Rice Krispies! Along with those you can dump in the remaining two cups of marshmallows and stir until it is all well coated. We want that last bit of marshmallow to soften, but not melt fully. It adds the perfect little bites of marshmallow to the finished product.
Candy: Now to turn these into Christmas Rice Krispies treats! Go ahead and dump in half of the red and green M&M candies along with half of the red and green sprinkles and stir again until it is well combined.
Finish: Almost done! Start spreading the Rice Krispies mixture into a greased baking dish and press lightly until flattened. Now to top these treats off start pressing the remaining candies and sprinkles into the top! Finally, let the treats rest for an hour to cool before cutting and serving!
Helpful Tip!
Spray a piece of wax paper with non-stick spray and use that to press the cereal mixture into place. The cereal won’t stick to your hands or the wax paper!
FAQs:
Rice Krispies Treats can be stored at room temperature in a sealed container for 2-3 days. We often go longer, but the texture does change a bit the longer they sit.
You can freeze these Christmas Rice Krispies treats for about two to three months. First slice the treats into bars or squares and wrap each one in plastic wrap or wax paper before sealing in a freezer bag.
Rice is gluten free but many brands of cereal, including Kellog’s, contain gluten, so you would need to find a gluten free brand of cereal and make sure that the marshmallows, candies, and sprinkles you are using are also gluten free.
