These cake batter cookies are loaded with chocolate chips and sprinkles for a fun treat with crispy edges and super chewy centers.
You know when you’re craving cookies but you’re also craving cake and you really need sprinkles but you don’t feel like making frosting and crispy edges are calling your name and you have bags of chocolate chips waiting to be used?
No? Just me? Haha.
Well, I don’t think that matters. I think you’ll still be excited to hear these next three words…
Cake Batter Cookies.
Yes, friends. The ultimate marriage of desserts!
We used my perfect chocolate chip cookies as the base and just swapped a little of the flour for some cake mix. Perfection.
These baked up with perfectly crisp edges, super chewy centers, and all of that cake flavor that we love.
These cookies are easy, too. No need to soften the butter first, because you just melt it in the microwave. No need to chill the dough, because these come out nice and thick and puffy even without that added step. No need to WAIT. These cookies go from mixer to oven to cooling rack in 20 minutes.
Ingredients:
Butter – We use melted butter, which is a bit unorthodox, but makes for super chewy, flavorful cookies.
Sugar – Both brown and granulated sugar in these cookies!
Vanilla
Egg
Cake Mix – Any yellow or white cake mix will work. Funfetti is our favorite!
Flour
Baking Soda
Salt
Chocolate Chips – Whatever variety you like will here. We do a mix of milk and white chocolate chips.
Sprinkles – A must in any cake catter cookie!
Why We Love These Cookies!
We love that you don’t even have to wait for butter to soften to start baking these cookies. You can have cookies on the table in about 20 minutes! They bake up thick and soft and no one can resist the pockets of melty chocolate or the colorful pop of the sprinkles!
How to make cake batter cookies:
Put your melted butter and sugars into a bowl and beat until combined. Then add your egg and vanilla and beat again until combined.
Add the flour, cake mix, baking soda, and salt and mix well to form a dough.
After that is mixed, add in the milk and white chocolate chips until everything is combined. You might choose to add sprinkles at this point, if you love sprinkles like we do.
Use a medium cookie scoop to drop spoonfuls of dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees F.
Helpful Tip!
How to tell when cookies are perfectly done:
- The outside edge of the cookie should be set.
- The center should still look moist and a bit underdone.
- The cookies will finish baking on the hot cookie sheet when you remove them from the oven.
Let cool for at least 5 minutes for the cookie to set up a little bit then serve!

I love the idea of using cake mix in cookies! Not so sure about the tech-free evening though… maybe we could give it a try sometime?

What a fun treat, my girls would LOVE them! Totally agree with you about taking some time to unplug, I’ve been trying to do the same thing with my family.

I haven’t even tried these cookies yet, but just looking at them I am OBSESSED! Gimme all the cake batter EVERYTHING! Especially cookies with SPRINKLES! I need a few dozen of these right about now. On a side note, while technology is great and all, unplugging is a MUST. With all the technology it’s easy to forget how important human interaction is, right? 😉 Your kids are adorable! Pinning these cookies! Cheers, girl!

Hey Karly, I was just getting ready to make these cookies and noticed that these have 2 cups of flour and 1 cup cake mix in them, but your perfect chocolate chip cookies you based this recipe off of has only 1 2/3 cup flour with the same amount of butter in both. Just wanted to make sure before I made them. Thanks!
Natasha @ Salt & Lavender says
That actually sounds like a really fun evening! We hardly ever unplug, and that’s a shame. I love the look of these cookies… so bright and cheerful. Anything with sprinkles and cake batter is right up my alley!
