Just as easy as lighting a Fall candle, but you get to eat it.
You know those nights when you want dessert but don’t want to actually make dessert?
Like, you want something warm and comforting that fills the house with amazing smells, but the idea of creaming butter or folding anything might just put you over the edge?
Hi. Hello. This is our Crockpot Apple Dump Cake and it was made for days like this.
We’re dumping 3 ingredients into a slow cooker, catching up on our fav Netflix show, and then scooping hot, bubbly spiced apples and cake onto a plate for the coziest little dessert situation.
You really don’t even need to plan ahead for this one – just keep a can of apple pie filling and a box of cake mix in your pantry, pop this in the crockpot before you start dinner, and live your best life. 2 hours later and your house smells like Fall, the cozy vibes are vibin’, and you’ve got the best little treat to round out your day.
Need this in half the time? Try our caramel apple dump cake – bakes in the oven in an hour.
♥ 3 Reasons You’ll Love This Recipe:
Super Easy: No bowls, no mixing. Just dump it all in and turn on the crockpot.
Smells Like Fall: Your whole house is going to smell like apples and spice cake and that’s not a bad thing at all!
Perfect for Holidays or Lazy Weekends: Dump cake is a hands-off dessert that tastes like you worked way harder than you did.
Ingredients, Swaps, & Tips:
- No Spice Cake: Use yellow cake mix and mix in ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon. Still delicious.
- Melted vs. Cubed Butter: Don’t want to cube butter? Just melt it and drizzle evenly over the cake mix. Making dump cake in the crockpot is easy – don’t overthink it.
- Add Some Crunch: Toss in ½ cup chopped pecans over the top before cooking. Totally optional, but highly recommended. No pecans? Try toffee bits!
- Slow Cooker: You can halve the recipe if you’re working with a 3-quart slow cooker.
How To:
Dump the apple pie filling into your crockpot.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix over the pie filling.
Arrange pats of butter over the cake mix and sprinkle on pecans.
Cook on high for 2 hours and then dig in.
Serving Suggestions:
There’s no wrong way to serve this slow cooker apple dump cake but there’s definitely a few really good ways. Number one, top it with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream!
A drizzle of caramel sauce? Don’t mind if I do.
Is this breakfast? No. Have I eaten it at 7am with a cup of coffee? I’ll never tell (but definitely yes).
Storage:
Fridge: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for about 4 to 5 days.
Reheat: You can reheat this real quick in the microwave in about 30-45 seconds. It’s best served warm.
Freezer: Let the cake cool completely before transferring to a freezer safe container or bag. It can be frozen for up to a couple of months.

I made it exactly as directed. It was okay. Super sweet, not very cake like more cobbler.

Can I use frozen sliced apples from my tree? Been looking for recipes to use my bumper crop.
Karly Campbell says
Hi Sue! I haven’t tried using frozen apples, but I think it would work just fine! You may need to adjust the cook time, of course, but I think otherwise this will work great.
