Spray a 5-6 quart slow cooker with non-stick spray.
Add the apple pie filling to the slow cooker. Sprinkle the top with the dry cake mix.
Cut the butter into small cubes and sprinkle evenly over the top of the cake mix. Top with the chopped pecans, if using.
Cover and cook on high for 2 hours or until filling is hot and bubbly.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream on top, if desired.
Notes
Cake Mix: Any size box in the 15 ounce range will work well here. You can also sub in yellow cake mix and just mix in a ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon if that’s what you have on hand.Butter: If it’s easier, you can melt the butter and drizzle that evenly over the cake mix. Works just as well!Nuts: The pecans are totally optional. If you want a nut-free dessert, but still want some crunch, try sprinkling on some toffee bits.
