Ingredients

  • 42 ounces canned apple pie filling from 2 cans
  • 1 box spice cake mix see notes
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup chopped pecans optional

Instructions

  • Spray a 5-6 quart slow cooker with non-stick spray.
  • Add the apple pie filling to the slow cooker. Sprinkle the top with the dry cake mix.
  • Cut the butter into small cubes and sprinkle evenly over the top of the cake mix. Top with the chopped pecans, if using.
  • Cover and cook on high for 2 hours or until filling is hot and bubbly.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream on top, if desired.

Notes

Cake Mix: Any size box in the 15 ounce range will work well here. You can also sub in yellow cake mix and just mix in a ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon if that’s what you have on hand.
Butter: If it’s easier, you can melt the butter and drizzle that evenly over the cake mix. Works just as well!
Nuts: The pecans are totally optional. If you want a nut-free dessert, but still want some crunch, try sprinkling on some toffee bits.
