Ingredients

  • 16 ounces spicy pork sausage
  • 16 ounces cream cheese room temperature
  • 16 ounces sharp cheddar shredded
  • ¾ cup dark beer
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon brown mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • Dash of Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat, crumbling the meat as it cooks. Drain the fat from the sausage and add to a 3 quart or larger slow cooker.
  • Add all of the remaining ingredients to the slow cooker and cook on high for 45 minutes - 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and smooth.
  • Reduce heat to warm and serve with your choice of pretzels, chips, bread, or crackers.

Notes

Sausage: We use spicy sausage, but the end product really isn't too spicy because of all the cheese. Add red pepper flakes for more heat or use regular pork sausage for more mild.
Cheese: The cream cheese is a must, but you can use pepper jack in place of some of the cheddar if you prefer. We like the flavor best with a sharp yellow cheddar.
Beer: A dark beer, such as a dark lager, brown ale, or stout, will add the most flavor.
