Bacon Butter

Spreading this bacon butter on a warm, fluffy biscuit or a toasted English muffin is one of my favorite morning activities. This is also delicious dolloped on a baked potato or over a pile of steamed broccoli. You can even top your favorite steak with this bacon butter.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices bacon
  • 1/2 cup salted butter room temperature
  • 1/4 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh cracked pepper

Instructions

  • Fry the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon to a paper towel lined plate.
  • Add the butter to a small mixing bowl along with 1 tablespoon of the grease from the bacon.
  • Crumble bacon into very small, fine pieces and add to the butter along with the mustard and pepper. Stir well to combine. Alternately, add all of these ingredients to a food processor and process until the bacon is in small crumbs and the butter mixture is combined.
  • Spoon mixture into a dish, cover, and refrigerate until ready to use.

Notes

The dijon mustard adds a delicious depth of flavor to the butter and helps to cut a bit of the richness. You can leave it out if you prefer.
Skip the dijon mustard and cracked pepper and add in a drizzle of honey if you'd like to use this on sweet morning treats, such as pancakes, waffles, or muffins.
