Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wing sections thawed, see notes
  • 3 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce adjust according to your preferred spice level
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Chopped green onions for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees.
  • Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. In a small bowl, combine olive oil, onion powder, salt and pepper. Coat the chicken wings in the olive oil mixture evenly.
  • Carefully place the chicken wings in the air fryer, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Air fry for about 16 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • While the wings are cooking make the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, hot sauce, minced garlic, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, and chili powder. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is heated through, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat to allow the sauce to thicken. Adjust the amount of hot sauce to suit your preferred level of spiciness.
  • Transfer the chicken wings to a large bowl. Pour the hot honey glaze over the wings, tossing gently to coat them evenly.
  • Arrange the glazed wings on a platter and sprinkle with chopped green onions for garnish, if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

You can make this recipe with frozen wings. Follow the recipe as directed but increase cook time to about 30 minutes, checking for doneness with a meat thermometer.
Feel free to adjust the heat level in the sauce by adding more or less hot sauce. Start with half the amount of hot sauce and gradually add more in. The type of hot sauce you use will also determine how spicy the sauce will get.
Make sure to wait to allow the sauce to thicken before coating the chicken wings. If it is too runny, it won’t stick to the chicken enough.
You can add some red pepper flakes along with the chopped green onion as a garnish. This will just add another spicy element.
Make sure your wings are fully cooked through, 165°F.
