Well, we’re about a month into the school season, so let me ask: How’s it going? Are you all surviving? I’m a homeschooler and I’ve already started pulling my hair out. I’m schooling two kids now! Where did all of my free time go? And alone time? Oh, I would love a little bit of that!
I won’t lie, I rarely cook a dinner that takes more than an hour or so of hands on time. My favorite meals are quick, healthy, and simple. I spend most of my time in the kitchen baking, so when it’s time for dinner I’d rather just get something yummy on the table and call it a day. Ragu’s new pasta sauce is totally perfect for those quick, healthy, and simple dinners.
I know you’ve all probably had Ragu at some point in your life, but they’ve recently changed it up a bit. Don’t freak out, not all change is bad. This one, in fact, is pretty awesome. Instead of just one serving of veggies in their Old World Style traditional pasta sauce they’ve somehow managed to pack in two full servings in each 1/2 cup of sauce. Even better, it still tastes like Ragu Old World Style pasta sauce! It doesn’t taste all veggie-fied. (Totally a word.) It’s a bit thicker than the original, but not so much so that you would notice it unless you are like me and you open one of each to do a quick taste test. The new version might have just a bit more flavor than the old, but again, I wouldn’t have noticed it had I not eaten a spoonful of each, one right after the other. (Ah, yes, my life is glamorous…eating pasta sauce from a jar. That’s just a glimpse into the life of a food blogger for ya.)
I know that with kids in school, especially if you’re working a full time job, it can be about impossible to get a healthy dinner on the table. Ragu has been around for more than 70 years helping moms do just that. Ragu even has a pretty impressive website full of recipes using some of their sauces. I tried one of their recipes out for lasagna (though I did cook it a bit differently than instructed. I’m physically incapable of just making a recipe as written. It’s a sickness.) and it was divine. The recipe for lasagna that I used can be found here and if you’d like to be super cool like me, just skip the 9×13 pan and layer the lasagna in your crockpot. I slow cooked mine on low for about 4 hours, but if you don’t want to wait 4 hours just turn it to high and it will be done in less than 2. I love slow cooked lasagna…so simple and tasty! You could also add some ground beef or turkey to this, but we decided to go meatless for the evening.
