Bacon Week
The other day I was thinking about Independence Day. What could I do on my blog to celebrate? Should I make one of those cakes with the strawberries and blueberries layed out to look like a flag? Or maybe I could make some red, white, and blue cupcakes. Then I realized that everyone else with a food blog has already done that and I should do something a little more exciting this year.
“What food just screams America?” I asked.
“Bacon,” I answered.
Americans love bacon. It’s a fact. It might even say that in the Bible. Or the constitution. One of those, I’m sure of it.
And so Bacon Week was born. I will spend this week making many bacon-y foods and then I will share them with you. If you are so inclined, you may send me links to your bacon-y recipes. At the end of Bacon Week I will post all of the links I have been sent and we can all click around to each others blogs and eat ourselves into a bacon coma. It’ll be fun!
If you want to play along, just send me a link to a bacon-y recipe on your blog to karly[at]bunsinmyoven[dot]com by July 1st and I’ll feature it at the end of this week. Send pictures of your recipe if you’ve got them (sized 625px wide or smaller) and I’ll include it with your link.
Oh, and one more thing. Bacon Week is specially dedicated to all of you out there who think of me every time you see a bacon recipe. I receive numerous emails a week saying something along the lines of “I saw this bacon recipe and thought of you!” or “Have you ever tried bacon flavored floss?” or “Did you know you can buy bacon flavored toothpicks?” I love that when you think bacon, you think Buns In My Oven. It makes me giggle.
Now, unbutton your pants. You’re gonna need the extra room by the time this week is over.

YUM! Happy birthday week to me!
Um, this just may be the best week EVER. If you didn’t know, I’m a bit bacon obsessed.
Ok, have you seen this website? It’s on of those that you have got to check out for…weird bacon things (and other geek things as well). http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/wacky-edibles/

I am LOVING bacon week, but my husband is a wee bit concerned about my love of that bacon butter!
How did I miss this?! I want to cry. I love bacon more than life itself. I have to make that dip. I want to make it for myself and eat it by myself while watching bad TV. Because I like to enjoy my bacon alone.
If you ever come to Portland, OR check out Voodoo Donuts and have the bacon maple bar, it is what they serve in heaven.
